The Beginning ……

As Muslims one of our duties is to learn more about our religion.  Islam is a holistic religion and covers all aspects of our lives including social, family, society, physical, financial, economic, spiritual and so on.  One of the areas of knowledge I found to be most lacking is financial and economic i.e. all the aspects that concern our relationship and dealings with money.

In a beautiful hadith (saying) of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him (PBUH))

“None of you will believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself.”

One of the most precious gifts we can pass onto others is knowledge of Islam.  This is the best knowledge as it encompasses all that is good.  My wish with this initiative, Insha’Allah (if God is willing) is to try and pass Islamic financial knowledge onto others.  Another motivating factor is to deepen my own understanding of financial matters from an Islamic perspective.   The right knowledge empowers us to make the right decisions, avoid what is harmful, promote the good and make the world a better place for ourselves, our children, our brothers and sisters and all of humanity.

I also hope to share the contributions of others.  There are some brilliant minds out there, dedicated and knowledgeable people who have written excellent articles, books and produced online presentations.  As appropriate, I will refer to these great contributors and where possible link to their work.

I also invite you the Reader to contribute.  Let’s make this a collaborative effort to increase Islamic financial education knowledge amongst as many people as possible.  This is a big and complex area.  I have limited knowledge, understanding and resources so please advise me if you believe I get something wrong.

Not just Muslims can benefit from this blog – the aim is to spread knowledge to everyone.  The issues I intend to raise effect everyone – the rich (including the mega rich i.e. the top 1%!), the poor, ethical investors, investors who don’t care, everyone with religion and those without.  We all have a vested interest in the resources and wealth of this planet, how they are used and distributed and what sort of legacy we leave to our children and future generations.

“With Him are the keys of the unseen, the treasures that none knows but He. He knows whatever there is on the earth and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but with His knowledge: there is not a grain in the darkness (or depths) of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry (green or withered), but is (inscribed) in a record clear (to those who can read).” – Quran 6:59

In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Merciful.

Allah is the creator and owner of the Universe and nothing happens anywhere in his creation unless by his will.  I thank and praise Allah for the knowledge, ability and motivation to write this blog, may he be pleased with it.  I ask Allah to purify my intentions.  I ask Allah to make it successful and a benefit to mankind and protect it from error.  I ask Allah to forgive any imperfections and mistakes that may occur.

In life, we can only make our best efforts – success is determined by Allah.
